Sim’s Kitchen has moved out of its suburban Onehunga home and into the Big City, with two new branches in central Auckland, one on Fort St and one in the fancy Elliott Stables food court. They bring with them loyal fans, who have built up relationships with the business and the family running it — Doris, Kenny and their son, who has taken the reins in the central city. We’ve talked about Sim’s a lot in the Metro food pages, but the char kway teow here really is worth raving about — so smoky, charred, spicy — just a concentration of flavour that’s facilitated nicely by the soft, chewy rice noodles. Not in a noodle mood? Then, yes, the nasi lemak with fried chicken is where it’s at.
