You know a restaurant is a long-time love of its local patrons when there’s a separate classics menu — God forbid you decide to stray from it. And, to be honest, you could quite happily order from there with no worries at all, especially if you decide to go for the risotto all’anatra, a duck risotto that is so impossibly moreish it feels irresponsible to leave it off any lunch or dinner visit, or the Prego pie, a golden flaky creation which encases a seasonal filling.
It’s hard to understate the importance of consistency when making dinner-date decisions, especially since the options seem to be growing by the day. Prego, having cemented its place in Aucklanders’ hearts and minds as a cultural institution, is the place to go to when you don’t know where to go; when the thought of trying something else and possibly being disappointed is too much to bear; when you’re catching up with friends with kids in tow and need somewhere that’ll cater to everyone. We are extremely comforted that for seven days a week, lunchtime through to dinner, Prego will be there for the old favourites our heart desires.
