Open Coffee

It’s easy to feel right at home at this Karangahape Rd cafe helmed by Christy Tennent. Tightly woven into the local community, it’s a lively hub, hosting pop-ups, community evenings and events that keep the space buzzing. Inside, the narrow, brick-walled space is dotted with small round tables and stools — ideal for hunkering down with a coffee or congregating with friends. At the counter there will usually be a pile of pastries, along with toastie options on the specials board plus a collection of hot sauces to pair them with. A recent renovation has transformed the back of Open into a lush inner-city haven that gets a hell of a lot of sun on a good day. Sunglasses recommended.
