Hungry Head is an institution to the East Auckland Chinese community (one year we left it off the list and got one of the angriest emails we’ve ever received). The vibe in this restaurant gives old-school Cantonese — the specials are written on blackboards in Chinese, and it’ll make life easier if you already know what you want. Let us help you out. Get the roast pork on rice, of course, and either the beef combination noodle soup or deep-fried chicken leg noodle soup. If you feel even the teensiest bit sick, get the restorative congee (pork with preserved eggs). Easy.
