We are big fans of places with a unique angle in the increasingly crowded under-$25 genre, and Hsiu Yuan Food Co, serving mostly Taiwanese food, is a perfect example. The way to eat here is to go up to the counter and get three or four things from the bain marie — a plate of one meat and two vegetables is about $15 — but those who are uncertain about what to point to can just order the pork chop on rice, or crispy chicken on rice, both easy entry points. On a cold day, get a hot-pot set, which is packed with vegetables and basically medicine in food form. Oh, and for a perfect between-meal snack? The Taiwanese sausage with sticky rice — delicious.
