Feb 16, 2024 What's On
THIS WEEKEND:
First Trimester
London-based Krishna Istha is here touring their latest work, First Trimester. This groundbreaking performance offers a rare opportunity to contribute to and witness queer family-making as they search for the ‘perfect’ sperm donor. They will be doing a marathon performance of one-on-one interviews at Basement Theatre for an audience to witness from 6pm-9pm on Friday and 1pm-10pm on Saturday.
Club Nights and Parties
Auckland Pride is stacked with options for party animals this weekend. On Friday night, there’s the always popular Propaganda (presented by Theta Project) at Darby Street Station and Nympho at Neck of the Woods. If that’s not enough, on Saturday night there’s Misbehaviour: Paradise at Everybody’s Downtown and Lychee Baybee at Ranyham Park.
Same Same But Different
The only festival of its kind in Aotearoa that provides a space to uphold queer literature and authors, celebrating this important artform, capturing our histories, and uplifting and encouraging the next generation of queer writers. Officially kicking off on Friday night with Campfire Stories, then a full day of panels, talks and more across Saturday at the Ellen Melville Centre from 10.30am and a final event at 7pm.
The Bloom
Jessie McCall’s stunning dance work probes the generative glitches of queer propagation and motherhood. It’s trippy, mind-bending and full of unexpected images. Closes on Saturday with a 12pm matinee and 7pm evening show at Lot23.
Check out Sam Brooks’ The Perfect Image at Lot23, a romcom set at a stock photo studio; and Oli Mathieson’s rave-inspired dance show The Butterfly Who Flew into the Rave at Basement Theatre. Catch these shows from February 20 – 24th.
